About Off the Clock

Off the Clock is a Labor Day party game for the last long weekend of summer — the backyard barbecue, the hammock, the pool’s final day, and the one rule everybody agreed on: nobody works today. One screen is the board, every player joins on their own phone, and over four rounds the picnic finds out exactly who could not leave the group chat alone.

In The Time Card, each player is caught doing something on the one day nobody works — a quick email behind the grill, a dawn mow, a raid on the leftover burgers — and gets one sentence to punch out of it before the room votes for the smoothest talker. In The Last Chore, the final chore of summer lands on one player, who acts it out in silence or draws it on their phone while everyone else guesses which of five near-identical chores it was.

Picnic Confessions puts everyone’s answers to the same picnic-table questions up anonymously — with the Foreman slipping fakes in — and the room guesses who wrote what. Then Clock In or Clock Out ends the weekend the way it deserves: eight Labor Day statements, some clocking in true and some pure break-room gossip, everyone calls each one True or False, and the answer is posted with the line that settles it.

How a room starts

1. Pick a game from the catalog — every occasion has its own room.
2. Put the game's board screen where everyone can see it: a TV, a laptop, or a shared screen on a video call.
3. Players scan the QR code (or type the room code) in their phone's browser. No app, no account.
4. Play — everyone answers, votes, and scores from their own phone.

How to play Off the Clock

A short narrated walkthrough of the whole game, from joining on your phone to the final scores: watch the how-to video. It is one tap from inside the room too, so a first-time group never needs the rules explained.

Where Off the Clock fits

You will find it in the Labor Day room, alongside the other games picked for that occasion.

Common questions

How many players does Off the Clock need, and how long is a game?

It plays best with 4 to 12 players, and a full four-round game takes about 30 to 45 minutes — the size of one good barbecue lull.

What do we need to play?

One shared screen for the board — a TV, laptop or tablet — and a phone for each player. Everyone joins from their phone; there is nothing to install.

Is it family-friendly?

Yes. The jokes are about hammocks, coolers, lawn games and sneaking a "quick email" at the grill — nothing crude, so kids who can read and type can play alongside the adults.

Can someone play remotely if they could not make the cookout?

Yes — as long as they can see the shared board (over a video call works). In The Last Chore they can choose to DRAW their chore on their phone instead of acting it, so the room still gets a fair guess.

What do players actually write during the game?

Two things: a one-sentence excuse for what their time card caught them doing, and short answers to picnic-table questions about their summer and work-life. Funny beats believable in both.
